"The Planet Sweet" - Outstanding Review and Endorsement by The Golden Wizard Book Prize CEO, Louise Jean

Review Post - The Planet Sweet.png

The Planet Sweet by Linda Lawrence is a remarkable book that encourages children to view the world through a lens of respect and kindness. It opens their eyes to the pressing issues affecting our environment, inspiring them to take action. What sets this book apart is its fearless approach to addressing difficult truths about our planet, presenting them in a manner that is accessible and not overly frightening. The five stories within the book present opportunities for children to envision themselves as champions of change, actively participating in the preservation of the environment. Each story culminates in a hopeful resolution, empowering young readers with the knowledge of how they can contribute positively to the world around them. Through the narrative, empathy is masterfully integrated, allowing children to relate to characters, like sea creatures and polar animals, who are impacted by environmental issues. This connection helps them grasp the reality of the situation and ignites a personal motivation to alleviate their suffering. The engaging portrayal of animals as central characters will certainly captivate young readers, making the complex relationship between humanity and nature more relatable. Through these innocent beings, children will develop a richer comprehension of how human behaviors impact the planet, effectively showcasing the interdependence of all life on Earth. Another reason this book is an exceptional resource is its comprehensive approach to a variety of pressing sustainability issues, tackling both well-known and lesser-discussed topics, including fly-tipping, ocean pollution, forest fires and more, making it an invaluable resource for young environmentalists. The urgency of these topics is presented in a way that will resonate with young minds, ensuring that they carry this knowledge with them throughout their lives. Overall, in a world where environmental awareness is more crucial than ever, The Planet Sweet serves as an essential tool for educating the next generation, equipping them with the understanding and determination to create positive change!

16 July 2024

On 16th July 2024 Linda visited St Joseph's Catholic Primary school to read some of the stories from her book Adventures of Bob Fin and Honeybun.

The children from three different years received the visit and all enjoyed the experience. After each of the readings the children asked lots of interesting questions such as how long did it take to write the book and what inspired her to write the stories in rhyme and how did she come up with the plots etc. In the end the sessions had to be halted purely in the interests of time. She was asked if she could return - perhaps either in book week or sometime next year.

It Took 20 Years to be an Overnight Success

Linda Lawrence, is a member of the La Quinta Club and has been going there for over 35-years.

20-years ago she wrote a children's book, but sadly it never was published. Then following a chance

conversation with a friend, who had published a book, her enthusiasm was rekindled.

After a few rewrites and updates her first book., 'Adventures of Bob, Fin and Honeybun' was finally published in September 2023. The book is written for 3 to 11 year-olds and consists of 12 adventures. Whilst the stories themselves are fun and exciting to read, Linda has written them all in rhyme as she discovered that books written in rhyme are more easily read and absorbed by children and adults with dyslexia and autism.

'Adventures of Bob, Fin and Honeybun' is available in paperback and kindle, online from Amazon, Waterstones, Blackwell and Foyles.

Linda has recently completed her second book 'Everyone Needs a Hero'.
